DISCO2030

  • DISCO2030 was showcased at Formnext 2025 (18–21 November 2025), giving visitors a chance to meet project members and see selected parts up close.

Three DISCO2030 use-case demonstrators (from Oerlikon METCO AG) were highlighted:
    • Rocket Engines use case: A reinforcement “exoskeleton” on a demonstrator combustion chamber section, using Inconel 625 on CuCrZr, produced via DED-LB/P and PBF-LB.
    • Marine Heat Exchanger use case: An overhang housing structure on a demonstrator PBF copper heat exchanger, again using Inconel 625 on CuCrZr and DED-LB/P + PBF-LB routes.
    • Cryogenic Tank Demonstrator (Cryogenic CCH2 Tank): Additively manufactured CCH2 storage tank, involving Cryomotive, Oerlikon AM, LKR Light Metals Technologies, and TUM – Chair of Carbon Composites. Materials: A5183, A60xx+Zr, CF/PA (carbon fiber/polyamide). Process chain: L-PBF (iHex) + w-DED (Al-liner) + Pol-DED (CFRP overwrap).

These parts helped communicate the project’s core idea in one glance: hybrid AM routes can enable robust, functional joining of dissimilar materials for demanding applications.
